Better RUM mobile browser classification

On 3 December 2024 (UTC) we made some changes to the way that RUM browsers are classified within SpeedCurve. These changes primarily affect mobile browsers, but some desktop browsers are affected too. Below is a summary of the notable changes:

  • Rather than being classified as simply "Android", "iPhone", or "iPad", mobile browsers are now classified by the actual browser type. For example "Mobile Safari", "Chrome Mobile", or "Samsung Internet".
  • Edge is now recognised as a standalone browser and is no longer classified as Chrome.
  • Opera Mini is now recognised as a standalone browser.
  • In-app / WebView browsers are now classified as the app name. For example "Flipboard" or "Pinterest".

You will notice your mobile browser data becoming more diverse over time as these new classifications take effect:
